ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is leading with a hefty margin in the second phase of the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The elections were held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 18 districts on Thursday while as per unofficial and provisional results, PTI is leading in 32 of the 65 Tehsils.
Sources said that PTI has won all three tehsils of Malakand, six out of seven tehsils of Swat, and is leading in nine out of 13 tehsils of Dir.
In Shangla, PTI’s Waqar Ahmad Khan has defeated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PML-N) President KPK Ameer Muqam’s son Niaz Ahmad in Tehsil Alpori by securing 16,080 votes against 12,453.
A total of 28, 020 candidates were contesting for different seats in Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Kohistan Upper, Kohistan Lower, Kolai Palas Kohistan, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Chitral Upper, Chitral Lower, Kurram, Orakzai, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has congratulated the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan and the PTI team for their overwhelming success in second phase of local government elections in the province.
In a tweet on Friday, he said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have emphatically rejected the traitors who sold out to foreign masters.
The prime minister said that this is an early warning to all traitors of what awaits them in their constituencies.
