ISLAMABAD: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have assured the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that they would provide data to the commission for scrutiny of the candidates ahead of the next general elections, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Wednesday.
In a meeting of ECP, SBP and FBR officials, held today under the chairmanship of Secretary ECP Ishtiaq Ahmed, scrutiny mechanism for the potential candidates of the general elections was discussed.
During the meeting, ECP decided to scrutinize the candidates, who have not submitted asset details and tax returns, through FBR. The commission also sought details of dual nationality holders from Babar Awan.
SBP and FBR officials said that transparent and fair election is a common goal and that both institutions will fully cooperation with the Election Commission. Representatives of both the institutions said that the ECP would have full access to the data, sources said.
It was also decided in the meeting that national tax numbers of all candidates will be verified from the FBR. While, the State Bank will share the credit history of all the candidates, a statement, made following the meeting, said. SBP will also share information available at Electronic Credit Information Bureau, it added.
