Monitoring Desk: A meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization contact group on Afghanistan will be held in Dushanbe on July 14.

Central Asian states have expressed their worries over the war in their bordering areas with Afghanistan. Over 400 Afghan National Army soldiers already crossed the border to Tajikistan last week to save their lives after the Taliban defeated Afghan National Army in northern Afghanistan which is in total control of the Taliban.

July 13-14, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Yi will have negotiations with the foreign ministers of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan and will meet with the heads of all three of these countries.

At the same time, it is specified that this visit of Wang Yi is designed to establish friendly exchanges with the foreign ministers of the SCO countries, and its goal is to strengthen cooperation with the countries of Central Asia and promote peace in Afghanistan.

At the start of his visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said earlier that relations between Russia and China over the past 20 years withstood various threats and challenges but confidently moved forward, despite the changes in the international situation.

Meanwhile, SCO Secretary-General will meet with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin on Monday.

Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Vladimir Norov arrived in Dushanbe to participate in a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reports.

It is known that within the framework of the visit, Vladimir Norov has already visited Nurek and got acquainted with the activities of the Nurek hydroelectric power station.

The SCO Ministerial Council meeting itself will take place in the capital on July 13-14.

In addition, Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin will also meet with the Secretary-General, and Norov will make a report to the Foreign Ministry.

It may be mentioned that the Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi held a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin on the sidelines of the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO-CFM) in Dushanbe on Monday.

The two foreign ministers reviewed the entire range of bilateral relations, with particular focus on reactivation of Joint Ministerial Commission, affected by the COVID-19 pandemic; enhancing parliamentary linkages and early completion of CASA-1000.
