ISLAMABAD: The opposition leader in the National Assembly and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Syed Khursheed Shah on Friday opposed the inclusion of military representatives in the new government committee and said that the military would be blamed if the government’s talks with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended in failure.
Shah made these remarks while talking to media representatives in Islamabad on Friday.
On Thursday, the federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told the National Assembly that a new government negotiating team was being constituted to hold negotiations with the committee nominated by the Taliban.
The interior minister said that direct peace negotiations would be held with the other side to make the process resulted-oriented.
The sources said that the new committee was expected to be formed in the next two to three days and it would include representatives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the Army, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and other stakeholders. The committee will also receive decision-making powers, the sources added.
