ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal on Thursday informed the National Assembly that the federal government had achieved 99.6 percent tax collection target during 2015-16.
Replying to a question of Sheikh Salahuddin regarding tax collection targets, the Parliamentary Secretary told the Upper House of the Parliament that target was achieved to the extent of 99.6% during July-December, 2015-16.
The parliamentary secretary said that the provisional collection during July-December, 2015 was Rs 1,385 billion against target of Rs 1,390 billion.
Rana Muhammad Afzal said that the target of the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) collection for the second quarter i.e. Oct-December 20l5 was R. 750 billion.
According to the provisional figures, a collection of Rs 785 billion was made during this period and Rs 35 billion were collected in excess of the target, he said.
Federal govt searching strategic partner for PIA: NA told
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Afzal Khan informed the House that government was looking far internationally reputed strategic partner for Pakistan International Airline (PIA).
Replying to a question, he said that the government had been focusing on restructuring of PIA and been able to achieve increase in its fleet from 18 to 38 planes with average improved life of the fleet from 14 years to 9/10 years and on time flights performance improved to 82 percent. .
He said that the government aimed to increase PIA fleet to 80 planes. He said that keeping in view huge accumulated loses of PIA, amounting to Rs. 295 billion approximately, the induction of strategic partner in the core business is a viable way forward.
He said that parliamentary committee was setup on PIA issue to discuss all aspects and ensure transparency in the entire process.
