KARACHI/QUETTA, Pakistan: As a part of efforts to eradicate polio from the country, a three-day polio vaccination drive began in specified areas of Sindh and Balochistan on Monday.
Over 3.5 million children up to five years are being administered with polio drops in 519 union councils across Sindh province during the campaign.
The health department officials said that 570,000 children in Karachi are being administered with polio vaccine whereas Hyderabad, Dadu and Badin districts are covered fully while in other districts specific union councils are being covered during the campaign.
Likewise, a three-day anti-polio campaign also began in eight districts of Balochistan province including Quetta on Monday morning during which 673,842 children up to the age of five years are being administrated polio drops.
The Deputy Program Manager for the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Balochistan Dr Ishaq Panezai said that anti-polio drive has been launched in Quetta, Qilla Abdullah, Zhob, Sherani, Loralai, Musakhel and Qilla Saifullah.
Beside polio, anti-measles vaccination drive will also be carried out in 18 high risk union council of Quetta district.
