Tunisia to hold parliamentary election on October 26

TUNIS: Tunisia will hold the parliamentary election on October 26 during which approximately 5.2 million eligible voters will cast votes to elect their representatives for the 217-member National Assembly.

It will be the second parliamentary election since the country’s revolution in 2011.

Earlier on October 4, over 13,000 candidates started their official electoral campaigns for 217 seats in the North African country’s National Assembly.

It is expected that the Islamist Ennahda movement and the secular Nidaa Tounes Party would win the majority of votes in the upcoming election.

The parliamentary polls will be followed by a presidential election on November 23. The Tunisians will have the opportunity to directly elect a president for the first time after Tunisia’s long-serving ruler Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was ousted in 2011.
