BAGHDAD: At least 26 persons were killed and 67 others injured in a series of bomb explosions in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Monday, security and medical officials said.

The deadliest attack was carried out in the mainly Shia Muslim Abu Dsheer district in southern Baghdad, where a car bomb near a crowded market killed seven persons and injured 18 others.

The official said that five blasts occurred in mainly Shia districts of the capital, while two targeted mostly Sunni areas.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks.
