WASHINGTON: The United States has appreciated Pakistan’s stabilizing role in the region.
In a meeting with the prime minister’s special assistant on foreign affairs Tariq Fatemi in Washington, the US deputy secretary of state Bill Burns lauded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s peace initiative with India and hoped that it would help bring prosperity to the people of the two countries.
Burns also reaffirmed his country’s support for prime minister’s economic development plan with special focus on energy and fighting extremism.
Fatemi briefed the US deputy secretary on the ongoing operation in North Waziristan and highlighted government’s commitment to combat terrorism and extremism in all its forms. He said that Pakistan is committed to eliminate all terrorists without any distinction.
The prime minister’s special assistant also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment in maintaining cordial relations with all its neighbours including Afghanistan and India.
