GENEVA: Syrian deputy foreign minister Faisal Meqdad said on Tuesday that the United States is not interested in the political solution to Syrian crisis.
“The United States is not interested in the success of this process,” Meqdad said in a news conference on Tuesday, referring to the Geneva II talks which are aimed at finding a peaceful solution to Syria crisis.
Moreover, the Syrian deputy foreign minister called on the US and its allies to stop arming terrorist groups who are fighting against the Syrian government.
“Everybody is aware that when the United States took its decision to stop providing weapons to the terrorist groups, that decision came after it was very clear that all the weapons given by the United States to the so-called moderate armed groups had gone to the extremist terrorist groups,” Meqdad said.
The afternoon session of the Syrian peace talks between the Syrian government delegation and the opposition in Geneva on Tuesday was cancelled due to disagreements over the basis of the talks.
