RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The United Satiates special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard G Olson called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Saturday.
In a press release, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the two dignitaries held a discussion about overall regional security situation with particular reference to situation in Afghanistan during the meeting.
Olson appreciated the efforts of Pakistan in fight against terrorism.
The meeting took place as Pakistan hosted the third meeting of Quadrilateral Coordination Group in Islamabad to review the Afghan peace process.
Earlier in the day, in the meeting at which representatives from the United States, Afghanistan and China also participated, the Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.
The advisor emphasized that political reconciliation is the only viable option for promoting peace in Afghanistan. He said that violent activities will have to be stopped for the success of the dialogue process.
