US welcomes Pak-India foreign secretary level talks

WASHINGTON: The United States has welcomed the recently held talks between Pakistan and India on foreign secretary level.

In her daily press briefing in Washington, the US State Department Deputy spokesperson Marie Harf said that both the South Asian neighbors would benefit from cooperative relations.

The spokesperson said that the United States encourages the resumption of dialogue between the two countries.

“We certainly were encouraged that they decided to resume dialogue and obviously believe that both India and Pakistan stand to benefit from practical cooperation and an improved relationship,” the spokesperson said.

“(It) would be good for regional peace and stability in South Asia. We certainly welcomed the visit,” Marie Harf said in reference to a visit undertaken by the Indian external affairs secretary Subramanium Jaishankar to Islamabad on March 3.

On Friday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam called on India to continue the dialogue process for addressing all outstanding issues including Kashmir.

The foreign office spokesperson called on India to show flexibility on the matters of Sir Creek, Kargil and Line of Control (LoC). She also stressed on the need to hold talks for extending trade between the two countries with equal opportunities.
