BEIJING, China: At least 18 persons have been killed in southern China due to heavy rains and landslides this week, media reports said on Thursday.
In China’s southeastern Jiangxi province, six persons were killed by lightning strikes while five persons were killed when heavy rains in neighboring Hunan province triggered landslides.
Likewise, seven more persons were killed in the country’s southwestern Guizhou province in floods when their homes collapsed or by lightning strikes.
The reports said that six persons also went missing on Thursday when a landslide buried a village near the city of Bijie in Guizhou province.
In Guizhou, 5,800 homes have been destroyed and another 16,300 have been damaged by heavy rains, which began on Sunday night.
