The BNA reported that having been supercharged by strong winds and temperatures exceeding 40 Celsius (104 Fahrenheit), wildfires killed two people in Central Greece on Wednesday and forced a new wave of evacuations.

The body of a 45-year-old shepherd was found in a rural area, the fire brigade said.

Earlier, authorities had found the body of a woman, the State TV ERT said.

Citing a witness, Reuters reported that assisted by 15 fire engines, dozens of firefighters were battling the flames as they threatened the Industrial Zone of the City of Volos, the regional capital.

The news agency said that firefighters circled the zone as they tried to protect it.

Meanwhile, the Labour Ministry urged employers in the area to suspend the operation of their businesses on Thursday.
