BANGUI: At least 50 persons have been killed over the past three days in a fresh wave of sectarian violence in the Central African Republic (CAR), a peacekeeping officer from the African Union force said on Wednesday.

The officer said that the violence was triggered by the killing of 17 Muslims at a camp in the central Bambari region two days ago, by gunmen claiming to be from a mostly Christian militia.
