PakistanExchange of fire erupts during Quetta dead burial

QUETTA: The annoying situation triggered stampede on Wednesday when during funerals of Quetta blast victims, some infuriated relatives of dead reportedly resisted burial of their kin, prompting police to resort to aerial firing to disperse them, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

The sources said scores of women blocked the highway and staged sit-in during funerals on Quetta’s Western Bypass.  Some infuriated relatives of Quetta blast victims resisted burial of their kin, calling for army action against culprits.

In an attempt to disperse furious protesters, Police resorted to aerial firing. Initial reports said youths belonging to grieving families, who gathered at Hazara town graveyard in outskirts of Quetta, also exchanged fire with police.

Earlier, few of the victims’ families refused to bury their dead unless an action is carried out in restive parts of Balochistan.

They refused to accept the direction of their Shia leaders who announced to call off the country-wide protest after talks with the government which said it had arrested 170 suspects linked to the attack and four suspects had been killed.
