PESHAWAR: Adnan Rashid, the outlawed Tahrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander, was killed along with his four relatives in the restive North Waziristan tribal agency on Friday night, media reports said.

His death occurred as a result of bombing by Pakistan military’s fighter jets in several suspected militant hideouts in Mir Ali area of the North Waziristan. However, the Taliban did not immediately deny nor confirm the killing of TTP commander Adnan Rashid.

Who is Adnan Rasheed?

Adnan Rasheed in one of his interviews told how did he join Jihadi groups and how did he was promoted to the ranks of commanders. This interview was published in an English-language jehadi magazine “Azan”

Adnan Rasheed mentioned in the interview that he joined jehadi group functioning in the Pakistan Air Force under the name Idaratul Pakistan, or the institution of Pakistan. The group’s mission was, according to him, to recruit jehadis from all three wings of the Pakistani military – Army, Navy and the Air Force.

Adnan claims that he was part an outfit that was sponsored by radicals within Pakistan Army and he was granted four months’ leave to get training at a training camp in Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He belongs to Chota Lahor village of the Swabi district. He joined Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in 1997. He was arrested for his role in an attempt to assassinate Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi on December 14, 2003. He was subsequently awarded death sentence by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) on October 3, 2005 at Chaklala Base of PAF along with six other Air Force men including Chief Technician Khalid Mahmood, Senior Technician Karam Din, Corporal Mohammad Nawazish, and Junior Technicians Niaz Mohammad and Nasrullah. Taliban attacked Bannu jail on April 15, 2012 and took him with them. He was allowed marriage when he was in jail. He is father of a daughter according to latest news. He is living in restive areas North Waziristan along with his family with the permission of local tribal leaders.
