Ukraine names new government, Arseny Yatseniuk as new prime minister

KIEV: The Ukrainian former economy minister Arseny Yatseniuk has been named as the country’s new prime minister after the protest leaders named the ministers they want to form a new government following the overthrow of President Viktor Yanukovich.

The 39-year-old Yatsenyuk is a millionaire former banker who served as economy minister, foreign minister and parliamentary speaker before Yanukovych took office in 2010.

The new government is expected to be formally approved by the parliament on Thursday.

Meanwhile‚ Ukraine’s interim general prosecutor Oleg Makhnytsky said that Kiev has requested an international arrest warrant for ousted President Viktor Yanukovych.

Makhnytsky said that Yanukovych was the subject of an international arrest warrant for alleged mass murder during months of unrest in the country.

The prosecutor also asked international organizations to trace the bank accounts of the ousted president and his aides, accusing them of stealing billions of dollars.
