YANGON: At least two persons were killed on Thursday during communal violence between Buddhists and Muslims in Mandalay city of Myanmar, a country shaken by several waves of sectarian conflict in recent years.

The authorities said that a large number of armed rioters took to the streets in the city and attacked a Muslim teashop after an accusation of rape. Subsequently, police fired rubber bullets to disperse rioters.

Since 2012, at least 250 persons have been killed and tens of thousands left homeless by the inter-communal violence that has largely targeted Muslims.
