Eastern EuropeCzech Republic to hold election on October 25-26

PRAGUE: The President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman announced on Friday that the elections will be held across the country on October 25-26 which will put an end to a period of political stalemate triggered by a corruption and spying scandal that unseated the previous center-right cabinet in June.

The leader of Social Democrat, the biggest party in the new parliament as opinion polls show, Bohuslav Sobotka said that after the election he hoped his party would form a minority government backed by the Communist Party or other factions.

It would be the first time since the 1989 Velvet Revolution that the Communist party could have a direct impact on government policies.
