CAIRO: The Egyptian government on Tuesday lifted a state of emergency and the nighttime curfew in the country after a court ruled that the measure has expired.

The state of emergency and the curfew were introduced on 14 August this year by the Egypt’s army-backed authorities as a part of measures aimed at helping authorities impose control amid protests by supporters of ousted Islamist President Muhammad Morsi in Cairo.
