ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain Tuesday said the government was committed to promote and encourage a healthy culture of sports across the country and provide an environment where people could spend their leisure time productively.
He was addressing the President Gold Cup International Squash Tournament, organized by Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) here at the Sports Complex.
The President said Pakistan had reigned supreme in squash for many years and this unprecedented distinction owed much to the excellent performance and talent of the Pakistani players who brought laurels to the country.
He said the President Gold Cup International Squash Tournament was last held in 1990 and its revival in 2015 reflected Pakistan’s desire to regain its squash supremacy.
The President appreciated the efforts of PSF, the sponsors and organizers for holding such successful event in Pakistan and hoped that such healthy activities would be held in future as well.
He also witnessed the final match of the tournament between Nasir Iqbal of Pakistan and Todd Harrity of USA, which was won by Nasir Iqbal.
The President distributed prizes among the finalists.
Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Chief of the Air Staff and PSF President, diplomats, former squash players, including Jahangir Khan, and a large number of people also witnessed the final match.
