Nestlé Healthy Kids is a global initiative by Nestlé that plans to educate kids about the importance of healthy nutrition and good hygiene. October 26th, 2016 marked the celebration of the second Annual Nestlé Healthy Kids Day in Pakistan, Lahore with the State Minister of Health Sciences Regulation and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarrar as the chief guest. The program is curriculum based and covers topics of healthy eating, nutrition, hygiene and the importance of Physical activity.
Since its inception in 2010, the NHK programme has reached out to more than 100,000 children in Pakistan alongside the training of 427 teachers. A total of 10 institutes in Punjab, the Federal Captial, Kyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh have partnered with Nestlé in order to forge a bright and healthy future for the kids of Pakistan.
On the second Annual Nestlé Healthy Kids (NHK) Day the chief guest, Saira Afzal Tarrar, talked about the nutritional challenges Pakistan is facing. She termed malnutrition as a big challenge and congratulated Nestlé on addressing it by saying “The Nestlé Healthy Kids Program is an excellent example of the role the food industry can play in helping the government address this issue.”
Nestlé Pakistan’s Managing Director, Bruno Olierhoek commented on the success of the event by saying “Two years ago when we celebrated NHK Day, we wanted to double our outreach and make the program national and here we are now, celebrating doing just that. As nutrition experts, we will continue to play our part in tackling malnutrition by educating children about healthy lifestyles.”
The Director General of Federal Directorate of Education, Dr Shahnaz Riaz, praised Nestlé’s initiative and said “Our partnership with Nestlé Pakistan is symbolic of the commitment we both share of improving the health status of our children.”
The happening activities of the day included tableaus by students from partner schools, art exhibitions, and speech competitions. There was a great showcase of the children’s knowledge regarding nutrition, healthy eating and physical exercise.
