PoliticsPTI mulls option to resign from assemblies against police crackdown

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is considering various options including tendering resignations from all legislatures in protest against police crackdown on PTI workers ahead of November 2 protest in Islamabad.

PTI sources said that the party would continue its protest against government’s misbehavior and if Islamabad Police didn’t tender apology over harassment of PTI supporters, the party lawmakers would resign in protest from National Assembly, Senate and three provincial assemblies including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh.

Sources said that the PTI Chairman Imran Khan asked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and party’s top leadership to collect resignations from lawmakers and begin countrywide protest from Friday.

Meanwhile, police continued its crackdown against PTI and Awami Muslim League (AML) workers to ensure that Section 144 remained imposed in Twin Cities and also placed containers outside Lal Havali where AML Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed is scheduled to hold a public gathering today afternoon.

Last night, Islamabad Police raided PTI’s Youth Convention in E-11 Sector and arrested scores of PTI workers.

Talking to media following police crackdown, Imran Khan announced countrywide protests against what law enforcement agencies (LEAs) personnel had done with PTI workers including women.

“We told the government that we would remain peaceful if they had remained peaceful. Now the movement will take a different direction,” Imran Khan said.
