TOKYO: An earthquake measured 7.6 on the Richter scale struck 231 miles (371 km) east of Japan’s Honshu Island on Saturday morning, according US Geological Survey.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory for the coastal Fukushima prefecture, warning people to leave the coast but adding that “no tsunami damage is expected.”
However, according a US Pacific tsunami warning center, there is no destructive widespread tsunami threat following the quake.
The US Geological Survey reported that the quake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers at 3:10am Saturday Tokyo time, 320 km southeast of Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture.
