ISLAMABAD: The militants wanted to destroy all the aircraft parked at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, a final report presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about Karachi airport attack revealed.
It is pertinent to mention that the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for an overnight attack on Karachi airport.
The report said that the militants barged into the old airport from two different sides and attempted to paralyze the civil aviation network.
It further said that the flight operation will resume by this evening. On the directions of the prime minister, passengers will be facilitated in every possible manner.
Shujaat Azim, the special assistant to the prime minister, said that the Karachi airport will be made operational at 4 pm today. He said that security has been heightened at all the airports.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority spokesman said that air traffic control operations and other activities will also be resumed with the revival of normal flight operations.
Earlier, the prime minister ordered the authorities to reopen the Karachi airport for public as soon as possible. He directed the Civil Aviation Authority to facilitate the passengers in every possible manner.
A PIA spokesperson told media that 15-20 flights disturbed due to the terrorist attack will be rescheduled by Monday evening.
