SEOUL: The top US military commander in South Korea was warned on Saturday by North Korea that if they go ahead with scheduled military drills aimed at deterring Pyongyang’s military provocations, his forces would meet a miserable destruction.
North Korean state media said the commander of the US Forces Korea, Gen. James Thurman, received the warning message on Saturday sent by Pak Rim-su, chief delegate of the North Korean military mission to the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjom.
Pyongyang was earlier notified that the US-South Korean Combined Forces Command is holding an annual computer-based simulation war drill, Key Resolve, from March 11 to 25, involving 10,000 South Korean and 3,500 US troops.
North Korea describese the joint drills a prominent example of US hostility against it. It says the hostility compelled the North to conduct its Feb. 12 nuclear test.
