India vs Pakistan ICC World Cup 2021

Both sides have locked horns 7 times in ICC World Cup and 5 times in ICC T20 World Cup but Pakistan has never conquered India.

Led by Babar Azam, Pakistan will kick off its T20 World Cup 2021 journey with the match against India at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 24.

The green shirts have already landed in the UAE and Babar Azam has expressed his full confidence that Pakistan will triumph over India.

Over the years, Pakistan has enjoyed quite a dominance over India in limited-over matches especially in One Day Internationals (ODI). They have met 132 times in ODIs, and Pakistan won 73 of them while India sealed the victory 55 times.

However, Pakistan hasn’t been that successful against India in T20s as out of their 8 bilateral encounters, the former managed to bag just 1 win.

Since December 2012, Pakistan has been eying for the first T20 victory against India whose winning streak remains intact at 4-0.

Now ahead of the October 24 clash, we would be mentioning here some of the famous Pakistan’s victories against India secured in recent years.

ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Final

Following a 124-run loss against India at Birmingham on June 4, 2017, no one was expecting that green shirts would inflict a humiliating 180-run defeat to the much more formidable Virat Kohli’s men in the Final at The Oval on June 18.

It was a 128-run Opening Partnership between Azhar Ali and Fakhar Zaman which helped Pakistan put a mammoth score of 338 for 4 in the end. But things became much easier when Mohammad Amir picked up India’s three key wickets in his opening spell.

In the end, India was bowled out for 158 in 30.3 overs, and Pakistan clinched one of the most memorable victories.

Asia Cup 2014

Certainly, it was Shahid Afridi’s once-in-a-lifetime innings when his blistering 34 runs guided Pakistan to a 1 wicket victory against India in the thrilling match of Asia Cup 2014 at Dhaka on March 2.

India scored 245 runs for 8 while batting first and despite a 71-run Opening Stand between Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shahzad, Pakistan’s middle-order succumbed to the pressure and 8 of their batsmen had returned to the dressing room on 236 in 49 overs.

The Indian Off Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was handed over the ball to bowl the final over and Pakistan requiring 10 runs to victory with 2 wickets in hand.

In the very first ball, Ashwin bowled Saeed Ajmal which brought Junaid Khan to the crease, and who intelligently pushed his first ball towards square leg. It was now Shahid Afridi facing Ashwin who had already taken 3 wickets.

Afridi smashed a six over extra cover and then hit another six at long-on in the next bowl, taking Pakistan to an astonishing victory.

Pakistan Tour to India 2012-13

The last bilateral series between Pakistan and India occurred in 2012-13 when green shirts toured India from December 25, 2012 to January 6, 2013 for two T20Is and three ODIs.

In the first T20 at Bengaluru, veteran players Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik with 61 and 57 runs respectively steered Pakistan to a 5 wickets victory. India in its stipulated 20 overs, scored 133 for 9 and Pakistan reached the target in 19.4 overs with 5 wickets still in hand.

The T20 series ended in a draw as India sealed the victory in the second match by 11 runs at Ahmedabad on December 28.

However, Pakistan bagged two back-to-back victories in the first two games of the three-match ODI series at Chennai and Kolkata on December 30, 2012 and January 3, 2013 respectively.

Pakistan won the first ODI by 6 wickets and the second ODI by 85 runs, and in the end, finished the series against the host with 2-1 in its favour.
