NEW YORK: The Pakistani ambassador to the US Jalil Abbas Jilani has said that Pakistan believes that economic development in South Asia cannot take place in an environment of tension.
In his address at the Carnegie Council in New York, Jilani said that the history of Pakistan-India relations has not been a glorious one due to the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute, Siachen, Sir Creek, terrorism and water issues. He stressed that durable peace cannot be achieved without resolving the core issues.
Talking about Afghanistan, the ambassador Jilani said that from the outset, Pakistan was and continues to remain directly affected by the happenings next door.
The Pakistani envoy further said that Pakistan has embarked upon an ambitious economic revival plan in the country which has begun to show results.
The ambassador also informed the gathering that the government has introduced a national security policy and launched a full-scale military operation to eliminate terrorists from the country.
