PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday continued its sit-in protest to block containers carrying supplies to NATO forces in Afghanistan against US drone strikes in Pakistani territory.
The sources said that the PTI activists set up camps at five major highways of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province including Ring Road in Peshawar, Khairabad Bride in Noushera, Indus Highway Chowk in Bannu, Charsadda Interchange, Kohat’s Indus Highway and Korai and Ramak areas of Dera Ismail Khan where they were checking vehicles heading to Afghanistan.
The PTI activists were checking customs documents listing the goods being transported to Afghanistan and only those containers were being allowed to enter Afghanistan which carried goods other than supplies for NATO troops, sources said.
The sources further said that the Pakistan-Afghanistan border at Torkham remained closed for the third consecutive day today, halting the transportation destined for Pakistan.
Meanwhile‚ cases were registered at Pishta khara police station in Peshawar against 35 PTI workers under the charges of thrashing and torturing the drivers and other staff of NATO containers.
