Lahore: The South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) commends the operation Zarb-e-Azb being taken by Armed Forces and fully supports its objectives to get eradicate terrorism and terrorist sanctuaries in initiative that is desperately needed, in North Waziristan in particular.
At a Seminar organised by the SAFMA, participants resolved to back the valiant Pak Jawans to defend the motherland and ensure the security of the people and its borders.
Although the government took too much time in pursing it preferred option of negotiations with the militants, they showed their real teeth and continued to pursue their extremist agenda. It however helped to silence those people who were misguided and thought that these diehard extremists could be brought to terms.
The threat of terrorism is the principle challenge to Pakistan’s survival and the whole nation should join hands to eliminate this scourge at every level and on every front.
This is a protracted struggle and energies of the whole nations should be directed to defeat it along with armed forces of Pakistan.
There is a great need for the media, intelligencia and democratic forces help evolve an alternative narrative embodying humanism, democratic values, tolerance and peace to defeat religious extremism/sectarianism and violent groups.
Safma calls upon the media to support the national cause to get rid of extremist mind-set, violent ideologies and intolerance. During this hour of trial the political forces must avoid to derail the democratic system.
