COLOMBO: Former Sri Lankan opening batsman Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed chairman of selectors by sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage while number of selectors has been increased to five, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Monday.
The 43-year-old cricketer-turned politician is a member of parliament of the ruling party United People’s Freedom Alliance, of which Aluthgamage is also a member.
Former fast bowlers Pramodya Wickramasinghe and Eric Upashantha were also appointed to the panel, as well as former batsmen Chaminda Mendis and Hemantha Wickramaratne, who is the only surviving member of the previous committee headed by Ashantha de Mel whose extended term ends on Jan 31.
