ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan’s star all-rounder Shahid Afridi holds the world record for the most number of sixes in the history of international cricket.

The 34-year-old Afridi has hit 342 sixes in 389 one-day internationals (ODIs) he has played since he made his ODI debut on October 2, 1996 against Kenya.

Afridi, known for his aggressive batting style, also previously held the record for hitting the fastest century which he made in his first international innings against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in October 1996.

His record stood for more than 17 years before New Zealand’s Corey Anderson broke it in January 2014.

The leg-spinning all-rounder has scored 7,870 runs at an average of 23.49 and a strike-rate of 116.29 in 389 ODIs, more matches than any other Pakistani cricket player.

Likewise, he has also taken 391 wickets, the sixth-most in the 50-over game.

Last month, Shahid Afridi announced that he would retire from ODIs after the 2015 World Cup being held in Australia and New Zealand from February 14, but would continue to play Twenty20s.

His announcement about quitting ODIs after the upcoming World Cup has left his millions of fans pondering: who to watch after him?
