Turkey allows US to use its military bases against IS fighters

WASHINGTON: Turkey has allowed the United States to use its military bases in the campaign against the Islamic State (IS) fighters in Iraq and Syria.

The US national security adviser Susan Rice welcomed the new agreement and said the agreement included use of the Incirlik air base in the south of Turkey.

The agreement also included a training program for Syrian opposition fighters.

The US is leading airstrikes against the IS fighters who have seized large parts of Iraq and Syria.

Turkey shares a border with both Iraq and Syria but has so far ruled out its ground operation against the IS fighters.
