US asks China to stop dangerous behavior in dispute with Vietnam

WASHINGTON: The US has criticized China for its stance on a maritime dispute with Vietnam in the South China Sea, saying that Beijing’s behavior is “dangerous” and asked it stop it.

In a meeting with the visiting Chinese Army Chief General Fang Fenghui, the US Vice President Joe Biden told him that the US is seriously concerned about China’s unilateral actions in the territorial dispute with Vietnam.

The US vice president said that his country doesn’t take a side in the territorial confrontation between the two neighbors.

His remarks come amid a standoff between Vietnam and China over Beijing’s deployment of an oil rig in the long-disputed seas which triggered protests in Vietnam.
