LAHORE: Former Pakistani cricket star Wasim Akram has tied the knot with his Australian fiancé Shaniera Thompson.
According to reports, the Nikah ceremony (mandatory for Muslim marriage) took place in Lahore last week in a small family gathering due to illness of Wasim’s father. The function was kept highly private with only family members were present in the event.
The sources said that a grand reception will be held in September or November
The 47-year-old Wasim Akram announced his engagement with Shaniera Thompson, a former public relations consultant, 2 months back.
Wasim said that Shinera will settle in Pakistan. Shaniera has reportedly converted to Islam.
“I feel lucky that I have got a second chance in life,” Wasim said few days back.
“She is close to my kids who are also excited and my in-laws (Huma’s parents) also endorsed the decision after meeting her,” said Wasim, who has two sons from his previous marriage.
“It will be a new life, a new beginning and I hope that we will settle down well with the best wishes of family and fans,” he said.
