AfghanistanKerry phones Karzai to defuse tension over Taliban

KABUL: US Secretary of State John Kerry held telephonic talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai to defuse tensions between the two countries over proposed US talks with Taliban.

Karzai had earlier suspended talks with the US on a new US-Afghan security agreement, saying that it was totally contradictory to the guarantees that were made by the United States to Afghanistan.

The Afghan President had also said that he will not pursue peace talks with the Taliban unless the US steps out of the negotiations.
