Following the footsteps of Bangladesh and Afghanistan, will Hong Kong succeed to make an upset against India at Dubai on Tuesday, is yet to be seen. However, it doesn’t seem happening likely as Hong Kong have already been thrashed by Pakistan in their previous match while a strong Indian side is not as vulnerable as Sri Lanka these days are.
It will be India’s first match in Asia Cup 2018, and overall second ODI against Hong Kong. In the sole ODI, they faced each other in 2008 Asia Cup at National Stadium in Karachi on June 25, India crushed Hong Kong with a 256 runs victory.Â
Today’s match will be followed by a much-awaited battle between two arch-rivals Pakistan and India at Dubai on Wednesday.
Earlier last night, Afghanistan kicked the former five-time Asian Champions Sri Lanka out of Asia Cup 2018 by sealing a convincing 91 runs victory at Abu Dhabi.
Afghanistan while batting first had a solid beginning and lost their fourth wicket for 190 runs before rest of wickets fell quickly. In the end, Afghanistan managed to put 249 runs on the board before being bowled out in 50 overs.
From Afghanistan, Rahmat Shah, Ihsanullah and Hashmatullah Shahidi remained top scorers with 72, 45 and 37 runs respectively.
In the quest of 250-run target, Sri Lankan batsmen again failed to deliver and by 35.2 Overs, all had lost their wickets for just 158 runs, falling short of 91 runs.
After their consecutive defeat in Asia Cup 2018, Sri Lanka was ousted from the event even without entering the Super Four stage. While Bangladesh and Afghanistan reserved their places in the next round from Group B.Â
