Sri Lankan Left-handed Dimuth Karunaratne has steered his Side to a solid position in Second Test against Pakistan as the Islanders ended Day 1 at Dubai with 254 runs for 3 on Friday.
Earlier at the outset, Sri Lanka began its first innings with two debutants – Wicket Keeper batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama and fast bowler Lahiru Gamage.
The Openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva gave a 63-run impressive beginning to Sri Lanka but then Yasir Shah clinched the first triumph for Pakistan as Silva was caught by Sarfraz Ahmed off Shah for 27.
The debutant Sadeera Samarawickrama looked an exceptional talent and played a brilliant 38 runs knock off 35 balls before he fell prey to Muhammad Amir. However, the next entrant Kusal Mendis failed to make an impact, and caught by Asad Shafiq off Yasir Shah for just 1 run.
The first Test Centurion Captain Dinesh Chandimal demonstrated his brilliant form with the bat, and along with Karunaratne established a 118-run partnership for fourth wicket which still continues.
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Dimuth Karunaratne scored his seventh Test Century, and scored unbeaten 133 runs at Stumps.
In bowling department, Yasir Khan once again was at top of the list for Pakistan with 2 wickets followed by Muhammad Amir who took 1 wicket. Wahab Riaz, who replaced Hasan Ali in Second Test, failed to pick up a wicket yet.
It is worth mentioning here that Sri Lanka is leading the two-match Test series 1-0. It beaten Pakistan by 21 runs in first Test played in Abu Dhabi from September 28 to October 2.
Unlike the first Test, the second Test is a day-night match, first ever between Pakistan and Sri Lanka while the second at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
